Windows 10 long boot with black screen before login

This is a common issue with older devices using multiple switchable graphics cards.
Windows 10 can’t handle the driver correctly if the official driver is not meant for Windows 10.

Manually disable one of the graphics cards in device manager will result in a bad resolution that can’t be fixed until both graphics cards are available.

First of all, try updating your drivers.
If this is no solution, try disabling fast startup in your power saving settings.

If the issue persists, there are a few solutions:

  • If you don’t need both cards and only need the integrated graphics (the graphic card integrated in your CPU), you could try disable the discrete graphics in your BIOS settings. You should be able to find a setting that enables or disables switchable/dual graphics. Sadly enough, not every BIOS has this option.
  • If you don’t need both cards and only want to use the nVidia discrete graphics for gaming or other graphically intensive applications, you should be able to change this in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Switch between the two graphics manually under Manage 3D Settings > Preferred Graphics Processor.
  • If you need both cards and still want to use the AMD discrete graphics for the same reason as above, you can try disabling ULPS.
Go into the registry (regedit) and search for “EnableULPS”, change the value 1 to 0. Find next (F3) and repeat for the next value you find.
