Manually configure an Office 365 account in Outlook

Sometimes, Outlook will have problems configuring an Office 365 account on it’s own. When this occurs, you can try add it manually.

These are the steps you should take when configuring an Office 365 account manually:

  1. Choose for Manual Setup or additional server types in the Outlook Account Setup
  2. Select Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service
  3. Enter these settings in the field in the next step:
    • Server: outlook.office365.com
    • User Name: -your full Office 365 e-mail address-
  4. On the bottom of the screen select More Settings…
  5. In the Security tab:
    • Uncheck Encrypt data between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange
    • In the Logon network security drop-down box, choose Anonymous Authentication
  6. In the Connection tab:
    • Check Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP
    • Click Exchange Proxy Settings
      • In the Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange field, enter outlook.office365.com
      • Check Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name on their certificate, then enter msstd:outlook.com
      • Check On fast networks, connect using HTTP first then connect using TCP/IP
      • In the Proxy authentication settings drop-down box, choose Basic Authentication
  7. Click two times OK
  8. You can click on Check Name now
  9. You will get an authentication prompt where you should enter your full Office 365 e-mail address and the correct password for this account. It is probably a good idea to check Remember my credentials so the prompt won’t reappear when using Outlook.
  10. When pressing OK, you should be able to proceed and finish the Account Setup.
